Nanowires are monodimensional structures with a typical cylinder form, in which the diameter has dimension in the nanometer range, while the length varies from hundreds of nanometer to hundreds of micrometers. 

IMEM is involved in the synthesis of nanowires of different materials. Structural and compositional characterization is done by scanning or transmission electron microscopy (SEM, TEM)

Germanium nanowires

Germanium nanowires are realized by MOVPE techniques starting from gold nanoparticles catalyzers. The main perspective of these nanostructures is in sensing for explosives molecules, by proper functionalizing the nanowires

Core/shell nanowires

Core/shell SiC/SiO2 nanowires are realized by CVD. Their structure is composed by an internal 3C-SiC core, covered by a SiO2 shell grown in-situ. These structures have notable emission properties and were used in the development of nanosystem for photodynamic cancer therarpy.
