The numbers behind photovoltaics: learning to use one of the keys to a fair and sustainable future

The transition from fossil fuels to renewable sources, such as photovoltaics and wind power, is an urgent goal that must be achieved within a few years if we want to prevent climate change from rendering our planet unsuitable for human civilization.

However, giving the green light to the installation of new photovoltaic or wind power plants without a strategy for sustainable development of the territories and the active participation of local communities, who are the guardians of the quality of life in the territories, risks causing more problems than it solves.

A strategy that starts with the involvement of local communities requires a quantum leap in terms of knowledge and awareness. A first step in this direction is to clarify the data, which is often used incorrectly, and to better understand the potential of a technology that goes far beyond the economic/financial aspect alone.

To stimulate reflection on these issues, the CNR-IMEM in Parma invites all interested parties, regardless of their level of expertise, to an event entitled “The numbers behind photovoltaics: learning to use one of the keys to a fair and sustainable future” The event will take place on Tuesday, November 18, at 6 p.m., in the CNR-IMEM Conference Room in Parco Area delle Scienze 37/a on the Parma Campus.

The evening, which will be opened by Massimo Mazzer, Coordinator of the “Materials and Technologies for Green Energy” Research Team, has a single, ambitious goal: to provide participants with a few more tools to add to their personal “toolbox” in terms of both knowledge and, above all, awareness.
