VERA
Virtual Environment for Rehabilitation and Assessment
Call within the INTERREG VI A Italy-Malta Program, Priority 1: Research and Innovation
  active project [2025-2028]
Project Leader: Dr. Giuseppe Tarabella (giuseppe.tarabella@cnr.it)

The optimization of diagnosis and treatment of neurodegenerative diseases (ND), which represent a significant health issue in light of the progressive aging of the population, is a common challenge that the parties involved in the project are addressing to improve health and quality of life. The synergy between research institutions and companies operating in the territories of the Sicily Region and the Maltese state, aimed at developing collaborative networks dedicated to studying reliable early diagnosis and subsequent treatment of ND through non-invasive and low-cost tools, is the primary goal of the VERA project.

IMEM’s role within the project is to provide various types of wearable biosensors (e.g., for detecting specific markers or for health monitoring through biopotential acquisition), developed within the research lines developed at the IMEM institute. These biosensors enable comprehensive, continuous, and non-invasive monitoring of patients affected by various diseases, in this specific case, neurodegenerative disorders.
