Signed the new agreement of the Territorial Alliance Carbon Neutrality Parma
The updated agreement for the Carbon Neutrality Parma Territorial Alliance was signed this morning at the headquarters of the Province of Parma. Signing the act, which is an update of the previous agreement signed in 2020, were the founders of the Alliance: the Emilia-Romagna Region; the Province of Parma; the Municipality of Parma; the University of Parma; CNR through the Institute of Materials for Electronics and Magnetism (CNR-IMEM); ARPAE Emilia-Romagna; the Management Authority for Parks and Biodiversity of Western Emilia; Unione Parmense degli Industriali; Parma, io ci sto! and Consorzio Forestale KilometroVerdeParma. The agreement is aimed at boosting the Territorial Alliance Carbon Neutrality Parma in order to contribute as effectively as possible to the shared goal of carbon neutrality of the territory of the province of Parma by 2030. At the same time, the Alliance's organigram was also defined. President is Maria Paola Chiesi, unanimously appointed by all the founding members. Vice president is Daniele Friggeri, while the coordinator of the board is Massimo Mazzer of the CNR.
The goals of the Territorial Alliance are to:
- create and develop a network of citizens and other civil society actors in the province of Parma willing to actively contribute to the goal of carbon neutrality of the territory through individual or collective initiatives;
- disseminate best practices and knowledge necessary to reduce barriers and promote the adoption of new concepts, technologies, and approaches to problem solving that support the achievement of carbon neutrality by 2030 within a framework of social, economic and environmental sustainability;
- create synergy between civil society initiatives and strategies promoted by local institutions such as the “Climate City Contract,” by which the city of Parma commits to achieve Carbon Neutrality of the municipal territory by 2030 as part of the European Mission “100 Carbon Neutral Cities by 2030,” and the strategic planning of the vast area of the Province of Parmam, with particular reference to mountain areas.
To effectively pursue the overall goals, the Alliance is committed to working through public initiatives, including:
- identifying, mapping and enhancing all concrete actions implemented by citizens and all actors living and operating in the territory of the province of Parma to reduce their emissions (direct or indirect) of climate-changing gases;
- promote the “decarbonization supply chains”, by stimulating collaborative and synergistic actions among stakeholders interacting within agri-food, industrial, technological, service or other supply chains in order to accelerate the process of decarbonization of the local economy and reduce the environmental and social impact of climate change on the territory;
- involve different categories of stakeholders (businesses, schools, citizens, trade associations, environmentalists, etc.) according to their active participation in the Alliance, acting primarily on the level of knowledge and culture;
- activate the exchange of best practices with territories that have already started a virtuous path toward the same goals of the Alliance, such as the Bristol Green Capital Partnership and the Siena Territorial Alliance;
- provide local communities, particularly mountain communities, with opportunities to study and learn more about the new opportunities offered by the Green Economy;
- contribute to the monitoring and certification of the territorial carbon balance;
facilitate the adoption of the Carbon Neutrality Territorial Alliance model in other areas of the Region or other territorial realities;
- contribute to the protection and enhancement of the environment and territory, cultural heritage and landscape through studies and actions aimed at combining the goal of decarbonization with the sustainable management of local resources and territory;
- carry out actions of communication, territorial animation, dissemination, information and knowledge on climate change, activating communication and territorial marketing campaigns;
- participate in a structured way in funding calls, support and networking activities that will be launched in the European, national and local spheres on issues directly or indirectly related to the decarbonization of the economy.
