Sunlight becomes the "engine" of green and low-cost chemistry, thanks to a new material that uses light to activate chemical reactions for generating molecules of that have high industrial value and that are useful for example to improve the performance of liquid crystal devices such as PC, TV and smartphone screens, avoiding the use of toxic and expensive metals.

The result, published in the journal Science Advances, is the outcome of an international research led by the University of Trieste, in which CNR participated with the Institutes of Chemistry of Organometallic Compounds (ICCOM) and of Materials for Electronics and Magnetism (IMEM), together with the University of Manchester (UK) and the Center for Cooperative Research in Biomaterials of San Sebastian (Spain).
