By reducing the physical dimensions of the materials up to the nanometer scale it is possible to induce new properties (physical, mechanical, electrical, surface, etc), thank to the quantum confinement and to the variation of the ratio surface/volume of the structure.
IMEM is studying a variety of materials at the nanometer scale, such as
- nanowires
- metal oxide nanostructures
- mesoporous nanocrystals
- Supported metallic nanoclusters
- quantum dots.
These structures are considered the building blocks to realize innovative devices for sensing, electronics, energy harvesting.
